Betty Rae Arendt

Hedrick. Betty Rae Scott Arendt, age 77, of Hedrick, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Manor House in Sigourney, Iowa. She was born on January 30, 1946, at home in Melrose, Iowa, the daughter of Clair and Marvel (Casebolt) Scott. She grew up and spent most of her early life in Highland Center. Betty attended Hedrick High School with the Class of 1963. On August 20, 1963, she was united in marriage to Robert Arendt at Highland Center. To this union 5 children were born, Doug, Tina, Julie, Twins Robert John & John Robert. Betty and Robert divorced years later. Betty owned and operated “Our Place Café” in Hedrick for 5 years until she went to work for the Post Office. She worked most of her post office career in Hedrick but helped at several different locations around the area. Betty retired as Postmaster from the Crawfordsville Post Office in 2011 after 21 years. She enjoyed crafting, crocheting, ceramics, repurposing furniture, baking and looking for useful items that have been put out on the curb. Betty also enjoyed making large meals and having all of her family under one roof. Plus, her love for ice cream. Her family includes her children, Doug (Dee) Arendt of Chapin, Illinois, Tina (Paul) Mosbey, Julie (Charles) Carlberg, Bob (Sharon) Arendt and John (Angie) Arendt all of Hedrick; Ten grandchildren, Danielle (Eric) Schnake, David Arendt, Darcy (Jesse) Holtsclaw, Dean Arendt, Ashley (Saxon) Van Buren, Zachary (Amy) Mosbey, Josh (Jessica) Arendt, Chelsea Arendt, Nathan (Jordan) Arendt, and Nikole (Dylan Kloski) Arendt; Step grandchildren Conrad & Jessica Cunningham. Twenty great grandchildren, Maggie, James and Willis Schnake, Isabelle Arendt, Decklyn, Deakon Holtsclaw, Addison, twins Ian and Lane Van Buren, Donna, Zeke Mosbey, Huxley, Hayes and Haiden Arendt, Axl Spalla, Norah, twins Brooks and Weston Arendt, and Torrey and Lizzey Kloski; her sisters, Marie Boyer of Ottumwa and Delores Caldwell of Albia. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia Walker; two brother-in-laws, Larry Caldwell and Gene Boyer. She is also preceded by her faithful companion, Buddy. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with Betty’s family present at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. As Betty's wish, her body will be cremated following visitation, and burial will be at a later date. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be donated to the Highland Community Center.
