April 14, 2012 at Fremont Funeral Chapel Interment: Memorial Lawn Cemetery near Ottumwa, Iowa. West Des Moines, Iowa-Jeannetta M. Bycroft, 78, of West Des Moines and formerly of Gibbon, Nebraska died Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Edgewater in West Des Moines. She was born Thursday, July 27, 1933 in Ottumwa, Iowa the daughter of John and Clara Osterfoss Schweitzer. She graduated from Hedrick High School with the class of 1951. She then attended Iowa State University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1955. On August 20, 1954 she was united in marriage to Ronald Bycroft at Hedrick, Iowa. After graduation Jeannetta taught school at Gravity, Iowa from 1955-1956. In 1956 they began farming in the Clarinda area until 1961 when they moved to Gibbon, Nebraska. In 1975 Jeannetta began teaching at the Gibbon High School until her retirement in 1995. Jeannetta continued to live in the Gibbon area until January 2012 when she moved to West Des Moines to be closer to her daughter. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Kearney, Nebraska, the Gibbon P.E.O Chapter HR, several bridge clubs and a retired Gibbon Public Schools teachers group, a member of Gamma Phi Beta, and the International Farm Youth Exchange to Scotland. She loved traveling, shopping, reading, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her son; Dr. Bart (& Kate) Bycroft of Salina, Kansas; a daughter; Melanie (& Rick) Hopke of Urbandale; a sister; Marilyn (& Dr. Jim)Thatcher of Moline, Il; two grandchildren; Jonathan and Alex Bycroft; a niece Dr. Lonnette (& Dr. Tom) Breneman and two nephews; John Thatcher and Dr. Craig (& Dr. Leann) Thatcher, and multiple great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel with Reverend Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa. Visitation will be at Fremont Funeral Chapel on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the service time at 11:00 A.M. with the family present at the funeral chapel to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Gibbon Education Foundation or to Wesley Life Hospice.
