May 11, 2009 at College Avenue Friends Church, Oskaloosa, Iowa Interment: Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa, Iowa. Sybil Jones Hoskins, died Tuesday, May 5, at Grandview Heights in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was born November 11, 1926 in South China, Maine and grew up on a farm where prize-winning chickens were raised. Sybil attended Erskine Academy and graduated from Lincoln School of Providence, Rhode Island. Following a year of working as a telephone operator, she attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa for 3 years, majoring in Home Economics. She met Moses Hoskins while participating in a young adult fellowship group at College Avenue Friends Chruch. They were married in South China, Maine on August 27, 1949 and made their home on the Hoskins family farm near Fremont, Iowa. They were true partners for the 55 years they shared together. Sybil assisted Moses in the farm work and animal chores as well as tending a large garden and fruit trees. As an active member of College Avenue Friends Church, Sybil served on various committees including the United Society of Friends Women. She will be remembered for her hospitality and her ministry of encouragement throughout her community and in her church fellowship. Because of this the family would request that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the Ecumenical Cupboard in Oskaloosa, Iowa or the House of Compassion in Marshalltown, Iowa. Her memory is honored by her daughters and their husbands, Marion and Steve Channell of Tucson, AZ and Margaret and John Good of Union, IA and grandson Isaac Good of Union, IA; extended family members; Win Wicke of Augusta ME, Ellis and wife Elva Hoskins of Springville, IA and Helen Hoskins of Oskaloosa, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband Moses Hoskins, sister Evelyn Wicke, and brother-in-law Joseph Hoskins. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, at College Avenue Friends Church in Oskaloosa. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Palmer officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Forest Cemetery. On Tuesday, May 12, there will be a Celebration of Life service at Grandview Heights in Marshalltown from 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. with a short program presented honoring Mrs. Hoskins.
