Funeral Service: 10:00 AM June 20, 2007 at Fremont Funeral Chapel Interment: Competine Cemetery near Farson, Iowa Joseph "Chester" Nelson was born February 17, 1911 near Abingdon, Iowa the son of Joseph Ray and Clara Smith Nelson. On December 11, 1932, he was united in marriage to Maxine McWilliams in Ottumwa, Iowa, they were the parents of a daughter, Marilyn Jean Nelson. Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Maxine in 1990, his daughter Marilyn Jean Nelson in 1963, three brothers, Wallace, Morris, and Merle, and a sister Martha Nelson. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Arlene Nelson of Fairfield, several nieces and nephews, and many friends he has made during his lifetime. Mr. Nelson attended Devil Lake School north of Abingdon. Chester was a farmer his entire life farming in both Jefferson and Wapello Counties. He greatly appreciated the outdoors, his farm, and his passion of raising and breeding Belgian horses. Because of his love for this magnificent animal he received the honor of being inducted into the Belgian Horse Breeders Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa. Chester was also a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Abingdon.
