Knoxville, Iowa Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. January 12, 2013 at Fremont United Methodist Church Joan Ilene Leazer, 89, of Knoxville and formerly of Fremont, died Sunday, December 16, 2012 at West Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Knoxville. She was born Tuesday, October 2, 1923 at Rose Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Irvin and Hilda Hedge Prather. She graduated from the Fremont High School with the class of 1941. On November 11, 1945, Joan was united in marriage to Keith Leazer in Oskaloosa and Keith died September 3, 1996. While Keith was in the service they lived in Great Falls, Montana. In 1946 following Keith’s discharge they returned to Fremont. In 1956 they moved back to Great Falls, Montana and lived there until 1978 when they moved to Deming, New Mexico. While living in Great Falls, Joan worked as a nurse’s aid. Joan was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church. Her family includes 3 grandchildren: Kevin Gordon and Darcy Lemus both of Tacoma, Washington, and Alicia Miekosz of San Diego, California; 4 great grandsons; a brother: Willard (& Susan) Prather of Knoxville, Iowa; and many cousins, nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a daughter: Carol Gordon. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Fremont United Methodist Church in Fremont with Reverend Ron Bupp officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Great Falls, Montana at a later date. As was her wish her body has been cremated. Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Fremont United Methodist Church.
