William "Bill" Mosbey

July 2, 1932 - March 13, 2020

William “Bill” Mosbey Jr., 87, of Hedrick, died Friday, March 13, 2020, surrounded by his family at his home in Hedrick, Iowa under Hospice care. He was born July 2, 1932 in Monroe County, the son of William E. Sr. and Ruth (Mertz) Mosbey. He attended the Albia High School and graduated with the Class of 1949. On July 27, 1957 he was united in marriage to Patricia Bell at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia. To this union, four children were born, Berniece, William III, Catherine and Paul. Bill worked at Kness Manufacturing in Albia for a while before taking a job as a Standard Oil Agent. He later became the local Standard Oil Agent in Hedrick and moved there in 1972. He was a member of the Hedrick Lions Club, served on the City Council, was a founding member of Hedrick Housing and was extremely proud of his service to the Hedrick Fire Department. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Mosbey; his children, Berniece (Jerry) Johnson of Grimes, William III (Roxanne) Mosbey of Hedrick, Catherine (Verlan) Van Maanen of Lynnville and Paul (Tina) Mosbey of Hedrick; 12 grandchildren, Andy (Lori) Long, Patrick (Sara) Long, Ashley (Saxon) Van Buren, Zach (Amy) Mosbey Bobbi Jo (Jaydon) Stevens, Michael Mosbey, Holli (Travis) Bunnell, Michelle (Joe) Anderson, Tiffany (Tyler) Warner, Jessica Van Maanen, Zach Van Maanen and Trish Van Maanen; 24 great grandchildren, his brothers, Jerry Mosbey of Albia and Ben (Sandy) Mosbey of Grand Junction, CO ; and a sister, Bonnie Hunt of Albia. He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. Sr. and Ruth Mosbey; a sister-in-law, Ruth Mosbey and two brother-in-laws, Dennis Force and Alfred Hunt. As was Bill’s wish, his body has been cremated and a private family service will take place at a later date. The Fremont Funeral Chapel in in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Benton Township Fire Department or Hedrick First Responders.
