June 18, 2010 at Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont, Iowa Interment: William Frank Gecho, 62, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at his home in Fremont, Iowa. He was born July 9, 1947, in Roundup, Montana, the son of Mike and MaryEllen Gecho. He graduated from Roundup High School in Roundup, Montana, with the class of 1968. On October 9, 1971, he was united in marriage to Phyllis McCracken of Prairie du Chein, Wisconsin. He worked for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, and Soo Line, as a machine operator, crane operator, and as an equipment technician. He retired from the railroad in 1987. Bill was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way and the Brotherhood of Railway, Airline and Steamship Clerks; he was also a member of the North American Fishing and Hunting Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a fan of NASCAR, especially the late Dale Earnhardt, and enjoyed woodworking. Bill's biggest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, since having been unable to spend much time with his daughters because of his work and travel with the railroad. In retirement, he enjoyed giving back to the community; he especially enjoyed being active with the Fremont Little League. His family includes his wife, Phyllis Gecho, of Fremont; two daughters: Christina Barnett of Fremont and MaryEllen Gecho (and Josh Wiley) of Hedrick, Iowa; four grandchildren: Cheyenne, Dakota, and Trenton Barnett, and Thomas Wiley; two sisters: Ruthmary Campbell and Rose Marie (Larry) Banka all of Brady, Montana; a brother: John (Paula) Gecho of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, William Frank Gecho, Jr.; his father-in-law, Wayne McCracken; and his brother-in-law, Bud Campbell. As was his wish, his body has been cremated.
