J. Marie Plate

Jacqueline Marie Plate, age 71, of Fremont, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023, at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield, Iowa, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on February 24, 1951, in Drakesville, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Hazel (Hancock) Reese. Marie attended Fremont High School and graduated with the Class of 1969. On April 11, 1970, she was united in marriage to Ronald Plate at the Fremont Baptist Church. Marie was a homemaker and stay-at-home spouse while she raised her children. After her children were grown, she worked at different care facilities in Oskaloosa until becoming a CNA and doing in-home healthcare with Optimae Home Health Care. She continued doing in-home healthcare until her husband became ill, when she stayed home to care for him. She enjoyed puzzles, collecting cookie jars, reading and had a love for The Wizard of Oz and Winnie the Pooh. She loved taking trips with her siblings to all sorts of destinations even after Ron’s passing. She also loved taking her grandkids on weekend trips and spoiling them rotten. More than anything else, Marie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family includes her children, Tim (Michelle) Plate of Cedar, Deanna (Troy) Bemis of Oskaloosa, Scott (Saskija) Plate of Ottumwa and Jeremy (Tawny) Plate of Gallatin, Tennessee; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Lynn) Reese of Hedrick and Dean (Deb) Reese of Beacon; two sisters, Sherri (Kirby) Pothast of Middle Amana and Karen (Doug) Chickering of Bloomfield. She has many nieces and nephews who lovingly called her Auntie Rie and her dog, Boo. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel with pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will follow services at Union Cemetery near Bloomfield. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is overseeing arrangements. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at the Fremont Funeral Chapel starting at 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 with Marie’s family present to greet relatives and guests. Memorials may be made to the family.
